My first job was when i was 16 . Started out working in furniture frame shop $1.55 per hour . Lasted one week .
Went to furniture plant working part time and doing the low down work most people wouldn't want to do . Quit after a couple week's . Most of my early jobs didn't last long . I just didn't want to work much and layed out a lot . All my jobs were furniture related and part time till i quit school in 12th grade ( i did finish high school later on ) .
When i got married at age 21 , still furniture work . Worked 11 different jobs in that first year of marriage .
I have worked in service station , really enjoyed that work till gas shortage hit and was let go . Worked at JC Penny changing oil tires an stuff . Liked doing that . One day i changed oil in a new Lincoln Town car and started speed balancing the tires and heard a knocking sound . Dang forgot to put the oil back in . May be the reason i got fired a couple days later .
I got to know a person real good and he hired me to work for him planting Lob Lolly pine trees . That went real well . I started sub contracting work from him and had my own crew to plant the trees . Hired some really pretty girls , that was a reward in it self . A little later own i went with my boss to South Carolina and we lived in a camping trailer over 140 miles away . We hired crews and planted trees . I made around 1,000 dollars a week doing that . Being out in the open and enjoying nature was rewarding .
Then the tree killing started . We began going into the mountain's and had this tool about 3 fool long that held a gallon of tree killing stuff . We would stab the tool into the tree about two inches a part released the liquid into the wounds . Some of those oak trees were hundreds of years old . Some were over 6 foot thick . You're probably wondering why kill a tree . The forest service wanted the undesirable trees killed to let trees like Popular and White Pines room to grow , in return make more profit for the state later own . It sure made you sad to kill something that mother nature created taking 100's of years to grow .
I have planted hundred's of acre's of tree's and killed about the same . One track of land was over 400 acre's . That was in Morganton North Carolina .
I finally had enough putting up with Rattle Snakes , Copperhead's , Yellow Jackets and Bee's of all kinds . You would be walking and fall in a hole and have to crawl out , only God knew what was crawling around in them holes . Their were growth you had to maneuver through to get to a tree and you couldn't see the what you were standing on and hoping it didn't move . I finally got tired doing it and quit .
When our girls was born i got a job in furniture plant making furniture frames . That was when i realized if i was ever going to have anything , i had to work and support my family . It was my last job and i worked there for 25 year's till i got injured and was disabled .
So i guess my many job's i worked at were the worst ones because i was too dang lazy to work .
My last two job's were the best . Working out in the open enjoying nature was a plus .
